Mitsubishi is recalling 8847 examples of its 2015 ASX and 2016 Outlander due to rust forming on their parking brake shafts.
“Failure of the anti-rust coating (Fluorine) may allow rust to form on the parking brake shaft. As a result, the parking brake shaft may become stuck and may not engage,” the company says in its recall notice.
“If the parking brake shaft does not engage when the user shifts into a Park position, this could result in unintended vehicle movement.
“This may increase the risk of an accident, which may result in an injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users and bystanders.”
Mitsubishi is contacting all affected owners. If you own an affected ASX or Outlander, you’ll need to take it to a Mitsubishi dealer for a free fix.
For further information, you can contact Mitsubishi Motors Australia on 1800 931 811.
