Volvo is recalling 2559 examples of its S60 and S80 sedans to fix a defect with the driver’s airbag.

“The driver’s airbag inflator may rupture in the event of airbag deployment,” the company says in its recall notice.

“In the event that a defective airbag inflator ruptures, metal fragments may propel out through the airbag cushion towards the vehicle occupants causing serious injury or fatality.”

This recall isn’t related to the ongoing Takata recall, despite being similar in nature.

    • A total of 2559 vehicles are affected.
    • Recall affects S60 and S80 sedans from model years 2001 to 2003.
    • The VIN list is attached here.

Parts for the S60 and MY2002-03 S80 won’t be available until February 2021, while the wait for 2001 model year S80 parts extends to November 2021.
