A lot of us are still stuck at home each day wondering what to do with ourselves. We thought it was time to get stuck into some Lego!
The 2020 Nissan GT-R Nismo is one of our favourite track missiles, and when we heard Lego was selling a DIY version of the Japanese rocket, we wanted to get cracking on building one.
The Lego version of the Nissan GT-R Nismo is a Speed Champions build. We wanted to sit down and assemble the car on camera in front of an actual 2020 Nissan GT-R Nismo – and an R32 GT-R and GT-R 50th Anniversary for good measure.
Plus, we have five boxes of Nissan GT-R Nismo Speed Champions Lego boxes to give away! Full details on entry in the video and also below.
So, grab a beer/coffee/diet soda, hook up a second screen and watch our build while you’re ‘working’, ‘at school’ or in a ‘video conference’.
Our build includes answering some of the questions you sent through on our social media channels, plus some footage from the Nissan GT-R Nismo launch in Berlin.
What was it like to build?
I have a confession to make. I’ve never built a Lego model before. Yes, I know, it’s a travesty. Let me explain.
My parents, well, my Dad to be more specific, was – no, is – one of the world’s biggest tight arses. He has many great traits, but spending money when not required isn’t one of them.
As a result of that, most of our toys growing up belonged to (probably) many generations of kids before us.
Lego was off the cards, because random bits of Lego that don’t assemble into anything in particular are fairly pointless.
So this Speed Champions Lego build took about 2.5 hours to do instead of the (probably) 15 minutes it would take most Lego aficionados.
With that said, I absolutely loved it! The Nissan GT-R Nismo Speed Champions Lego build comes in a box with two bags, plus an instruction book.
The instruction book details which parts you need to pull out of each bag and exactly where to assemble them to begin creating the car.
It ended up being quite therapeutic and while this is a very easy build, I can imagine how much more effort and skill is required to assemble some of the bigger Lego models you see getting about people’s desks.
The only issue I ran into was all the parts left over at the end. I’m not entirely sure if there are meant to be spare parts, but I know from building Ikea furniture that spare parts are never a good thing – let us know in the comments below if it’s normal to have leftovers.
