About the Ford Mustang
Brad G purchased this Ford Mustang new for $70,350 (including all on-road costs). Brad G would buy this car again because: “V8 rear wheel drive goodness! Decent bang for your buck.
California Special pack adds some nice touches for not much more. Sounds great and enjoy shifting my own gears while I still can.
Not a daily driver so can enjoy it on nice days without too much concern about the obscene fuel bill.”
How reliable has your car been? Tell us about any issues.
Car is only eight weeks old so reliability is not an issue at this stage, although an annoying rattle is developing.
Cheap interior plastics suggest to me it’s something that may be ongoing. Euro or Japanese levels of build quality it ain’t.
What do you think of the ownership experience with your car?
Mustang is generally a nice car to own. In a world full of twin-cab diesel utes or SUVs it still gets plenty of looks.
Plenty like to customise their Mustangs and the aftermarket sure does cater for that if you so desire, but I’m an originality kind of guy
How has the purchase and aftercare experience been with your car?
Cant speak much for aftercare yet, but was just on 13 months from purchase to delivery. Can’t be critical of my dealer.
Waiting times have been long everywhere and I’m sure there has been a lot of impatient buyers. I think the price i got was pretty fair and the dealer did provide semi-regular updates.
Are you happy with the price and features of your car?
Certainly happy with the price. Yes its a lot of money but it’s a lot of bang for your buck.
The S550 Mustang is in its final throes and is long in the tooth by modern standards, but it does everything as advertised
Yes its not cutting edge in terms of features, but its more than acceptable and still maintains a traditional Mustang feel.
What do you think of the performance and economy of your car?
Well how else can you put this?
Performance is fantastic. It’s not hugely torquey down low, and crappy gearing means it doesn’t jump off the line but it loves to rev, and sings a glorious tune the further up in the rev range you go.
Auto is definitely snappier but wheres the fun in that?
The less said about fuel economy the better. By modern standards in our world of EVs and hybrids it would make many cringe. I however don’t care. I never purchased it to be a daily driver nor would I have.
For those wondering I can achieve around 14L/100kms with sedate (ish) around town driving. The car is definitely not broken in with only 650kms on the clock.
What do you think of the technology in your car?
Im not a huge technology kind of guy. If I can stream music and answer and make phone calls im pretty happy.
Sync 3 has always been well regarded but the 8.0-inch screen is pretty average these days. Like it or not the new S650 will have a much more high tech interior. The fully customisable digital dash still looks great five years after its introduction.
Safety has always been a talking point of this car with an extremely poor two-star rating on release in 2015 being incrementally improved to three-star from 2018 onwards.
My understanding is most of this is down to rear occupant safety. I don’t ever plan to have anyone in the back, even kids in the back would be bordering on child abuse with the ridiculous lack of head and legroom.
What do you think of the ride comfort and handling of your car?
Its a really easy car to get comfortable in. Im 6 foot 5 and find the seats very comfortable with plenty of room. Seat heating and cooling adds to the comfort.
I find the suspension tune to be jittery on our roads. Definitely not an issue but you can tell the suspension tune is a generic US one that is not designed for Australia.
In hindsight I should’ve ticked the Magneride box which would’ve overcome that concern
