    About the Mercedes GLB

David S purchased this Mercedes GLB new for $101,000 (including all on-road costs). David S wouldn’t buy this car again because: “I like variety. It’s exciting to drive something new. I’d drive a different car every other month if I could. The car itself is fantastic however and meets my needs with family and leisure. A little zip, zip helps too”

How reliable has your car been? Tell us about any issues.

So-so. I had a rattle in the rear suspension. It took two days to find the rattle and resolve.

Secondly, the sun blind has stopped working. This is annoying if left in the open position in far-north Queensland! I can only operate through voice command but not button.

What do you think of the ownership experience with your car?

Driving a premium luxury brand does feel special. Having driven four other vehicles in the prior four years I was getting desperate to find something special to meet all my needs.

I learned I needed something high enough for ground clearance and to accommodate elderly grandparents getting in and out (hard to do in a new Audi S4!). But not as big as a Prado.

I need to be able to reach up to put a bike on the roof. Seven seats for added infrequent convenience. Finally some punch. Oh, ventilated seats are superb.

How has the purchase and aftercare experience been with your car?

The salesman was hugely accommodating. Even post purchase. He picked me up from the airport well after hours. The couple of reliably issues have been annoying but service has been good.

I’d vowed never to buy a vehicle from the group that owns Mercedes where I live based on terrible prior experience but received guarantees that it would be better.

Are you happy with the price and features of your car?

Yes. I was able to get the price down before Mercedes-Benz went to the model where you can’t haggle the local salesman.

To have all that is featured per my ownership experience is ideal. It does make me want more or to understand the possibilities of what you get with an increase in vehicle price.

What do you think of the performance and economy of your car?

I drive to feel and don’t necessarily think about economy. Performance is excellent. In S+ it can launch quickly and has no roll in corners. Not in the league as a Golf R or S4 but excellent for the vehicle type. AMG 45 please?!

What do you think of the technology in your car?

I was a fan of Apple CarPlay in my Volkswagen but it’s not as friendly in the Mercedes. The Mercedes offering in the GLB is of a high standard and very useable. Cameras, mirrors, climate, drive technology are all sound.

What do you think of the ride comfort and handling of your car?

I did mention above but comfort mode with the family serves its purpose for cruising and S+ for when Dad wants a play.

Punch and agility for a small SUV is a joy. It can be driven with balance and confidence. Marks down due to plumbed noise and my wife comments that she felt a Mercedes should have less road noise…

Do you have any additional comments about your car?

Highly recommend, and this review written based on several cars I’ve owned or test driven.
