About the Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class
Alireza Bahrami purchased this Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class used for $83,000 (including all on-road costs) in 2022. Alireza Bahrami would buy this car again because: “Great family car with solid build quality and great handling. Powerful and punchy engine with state of the art safety features. In medium size SUV market if you are looking for luxury combined with practicality then GLC is a good choice!”
How reliable has your car been? Tell us about any issues.
The GLC 300 has been reliable so far. There was an issue with touchscreen which was freezing time-to-time and was replaced with brand new under Mercedes warranty. I believe the strong point here Mercedes customer service that makes the process hassle free.
I was provided with a loan car, exact same model for three days while screen was replaced. This was totally free of charge. (Didn’t need to pay for petrol, tolls etc. as well).
What do you think of the ownership experience with your car?
It’s been fun and hassle free so far.
Previously had a GLC 2016 220D model and can say the new one has gone further when it comes to ride quality and handling. I have owned a GLA as well before and am kinda a brand fan these days!
Are you happy with the price and features of your car?
I usually buy cars that are one or two years old to skip the massive depreciation on first couple of years.
This is especially true for luxury brands. We paid $83k for a one year-old car that is close to $100k brand new! Being the 300 series it gets the more powerful engine and ours has all the bells and whistles like Burmester sounds system, panoramic sunroof , heated seats etc.
What do you think of the performance and economy of your car?
First of all, it’s a thirsty engine with a combined 11L/100 consumption. Being a turbo, in city it goes up to 15L/100. Performance wise, it’s fantastic. A punchy engine that really delivers the torque and power when you need it!
What do you think of the technology in your car?
From 2020, GLC models were equipped with the new MBUX and digital dash. This system is extremely fun and customisable.
MBUX interface is easy to use and screams quality. Safety features and technology is second to none in this variant and most importantly they work.
For example, semi-autonomous driving feature works great on highways and so far I have not seen any glitch in it. Premium sound system is also something worth mentioning and is a fantastic option. From 2021, the newer MBUX version was added which gives you even more options like a full map on the digital dash etc.
The only disappointing part I can think of is the way smartphone mirroring is implemented. It’s not full screen and still is wired. I would love to have it wireless with a full screen integration.
What do you think of the ride comfort and handling of your car?
Mercedes-Benz is not the best when it comes to ride comfort (I think most Germans are same) unless you option air suspension however comparing this model with pervious generation can definitely say ride comfort has improved.
Handling is very good considering this is a mid size SUV. There is almost no body roll and noise level in cabin is really minimum. Seats are not the most comfortable in the market as well.
I think some Japanese brands like Mazda give you a better balance between ride comfort and sporty drive (don’t mean handling) or for example Lexus has better seats!
