About the Hyundai i30
Callum Lediott purchased this Hyundai i30 used for $33,000 (including all on-road costs) in 2020. How reliable has your car been? Tell us about any issues.
The i30 N has been extremely reliable with no issues besides the tyre pressure monitoring being a little buggy and misinterpreting the actual tyre pressures. Only other complaint is the exterior paint and build seems to be very cheap and nasty on some parts on the side panels and front bumper.
What do you think of the ownership experience with your car?
This car has definitely been an eye-opener for how much a small car can pack, whether it is in terms of the awesome flexibility of the ‘N’ custom mode and how you can have different calibrations such as exhaust being on sport, while the adaptive suspension is on comfort mode.
It has allowed daily driving to be fun and adventurous, while staying civil to the reputation the i30 N has claimed over the last couple of years.
Are you happy with the price and features of your car?
Absolutely! It has features that make it worth the spend, such as a heated steering wheel and seats, adjustable modes to tailor to different experiences and levels, and front and rear parking sensors with lane assist.
Having the price range around the low $50k bracket makes it an option not to ignore. It came with a three-stage variant of specs such as the: Standard N with the Lux Pack (heated seats, leather bolstering) and then Lux Pack with a sunroof that’s the biggest I have ever seen on a hot hatch.
What do you think of the performance and economy of your car?
The high-end torque does tend to make it struggle off the line, but once it has gained traction, it is off like a little pocket rocket.
The economy is dependent (again) on the modes.In N (track mode) I have averaged around 11.7L/100km, while in Normal I can go as low as 8.0L/100km. That’s not bad in my eyes for such a well priced car.
What do you think of the technology in your car?
The interior may be a little tacky and cheap, but with the standard infotainment system and drive assist systems it gives you the necessities of this modern age.
Having come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, parking sensors, reverse camera, collision warning, and lane assist, it provides the essentials. Coming with full electric adjustable seats on both fronts and a Mirror Auto tilting function to help mind those curbs, makes it such as safe and functional car to be in.
What do you think of the ride comfort and handling of your car?
While being in everyday traffic as my daily driver, the comfort is amazing. As I am six-seven, you wouldn’t expect me to be driving such a small car, but with the awesome adjustability in the seats and steering wheel it has allowed to to comfortable drive along short or long distance trips… even though nobody fits behind me in the rear seat.
The tightening of the steering wheel when you hit that magical blue button changes the i30 N to a mean machine, that pushes that LSD and makes those corners feel like nothing. Then when the time comes for a rest it is a civil as ever with light easy steering and an awesome feature of rev matching, that makes it a little more easier in heavy traffic.
