About the Ford FALCON
Matthew West purchased this Ford FALCON used for $6,000 (including all on-road costs) in 2021. Matthew West would buy this car again because: “I love Aussie cars and that sweet sweet Barra engine.”
How reliable has your car been? Tell us about any issues.
The Falcon has been fairly reliable in the time I have owned it. An exemplar of a high kilometre vehicle, I have had to fix a few things (crankshaft pulley seal to name one), but mechanically it runs fine.
A few seals around the doors have started to tear and some of the plastic trim on the C-pillar has started to detach but it doesn’t bother me too much. Only small things have had to be changed which haven’t negatively affected the reliability of the car.
What do you think of the ownership experience with your car?
So far the ownership experience has been hassle free.
Are you happy with the price and features of your car?
When I saw the car for $6000 I knew I had to purchase it. It has all the features I want.
What do you think of the performance and economy of your car?
Performance is great from the naturally aspirated 4.0-litre straight six. It’s an excellent highway cruiser and has plenty of punch if you need to overtake on rural roads. It satisfies my performance needs at this current point in time. Economy wise, it is thirsty around the city but at constant speeds it is more reasonable.
What do you think of the technology in your car?
Technology in the Falcon includes Bluetooth, AUX and USB charging. Other than that it doesn’t include much more, but that is expected for car of this age.
What do you think of the ride comfort and handling of your car?
The straight six paired with the ZF six-speed automatic results in a smooth ride. The sporty suspension doesn’t compromise on comfort too much and is still good on long road trips. The handling is very good for a large sedan and it has a fairly good turning circle.
Do you have any additional comments about your car?
I love Aussie cars and I really wanted an Australian made car before they get too expensive. This will be my slice of Australian automotive history and I am happy to be a part of it. Also the Barra engine is such an icon.
