Jeep has revealed its new premium electric SUV, the Wagoneer S, ahead of an Australian launch in 2026.
Full details of the model are yet to be revealed, however we know the vehicle will sit on Stellantis’ STLA Large platform, will offer 447kW of power and will feature a “tech-focused” interior.
Jeep claims the electric SUV will accelerate from 0-60mph (96km/h) in “around” 3.5 seconds.
While Australians will have to wait until 2026 for the Wagoneer S, it’ll go on sale in North America in the northern autumn of this year (September-November inclusive).
The Wagoneer S SUV’s “BEV-native” STLA Large architecture will also underpin the Wrangler-inspired Recon, due here in 2025.
Jeep has released more photos of the SUV, revealing its traditional seven-slot grille that, in a very 2020s touch, is illuminated. Also contemporary are the flush door handles.
While the slim headlights are reminiscent of other Jeep models like the Wagoneer, the roofline is dramatically different with a rather coupe SUV-like rake.
At the rear, there’s a spoiler at the top of the windscreen and another thin and less obvious spoiler at the bottom of the windscreen.
A full-width LED light bar runs across the tailgate and stretches around the corners of the vehicle.
Inside, there’s a four-screen setup featuring a digital instrument cluster, two central touchscreens (one for the climate controls), and a display ahead of the passenger.
The centre console houses two cupholders, Jeep’s Selec-Terrain toggle, a start button and a rotary dial gear selector.
The cabin is bathed in ambient lighting at night and sunlight during the day thanks to a standard panoramic sunroof, while there’s a 19-speaker McIntosh sound system.
While Jeep says it will have “standard 4xe capability with all-terrain management”, it isn’t likely to be as singularly focused on off-road ability as the more rugged Recon – think of this instead as more of an electric counterpart to the Grand Cherokee, while the Recon is more Wrangler-esque.
Despite the name, it’s completely unrelated to the current, larger Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, which offer petrol and soon plug-in hybrid powertrains and are related to the Ram 1500.
Before the Recon and Wagoneer S arrive in Australia, Jeep will introduce another EV.
The pint-sized Avenger crossover, which is smaller than even the Compass, will arrive here during the fourth quarter of 2024.
