    Volvo XC60, XC90 plug-in hybrids recalled

Volvo's plug-in hybrid XC60 and XC90 have been recalled to fix a problem with the engine control module, although owners won't need to visit a dealer for a fix.

Volvo Car Australia has recalled its 2022 and 2023 mid-sized XC60 Recharge and seven-seat XC90 Recharge SUVs to fix a problem with the Engine Control Module (ECM).

“A software programming error in the Engine Control Module may cause the combustion engine to not restart whilst driving. This condition, with a depleted High Voltage battery, could lead to a loss of motive power,” Volvo says in its recall notice.

“A depleted high voltage battery is preceded by warnings in the instrument cluster.”

“A loss of motive power while driving could increase the risk of an accident and injury to a vehicle occupant or other road users. In the event of a serious accident this may result in death.”

Rather than requiring a return to the dealer, the problem can be solved with an over-the-air software update that owners download at home.

    • A total of 925 vehicles are included in the recall
    • A VIN list of affected vehicles is attached here
    • The original recall notice is attached here

Owners who don’t want to update their vehicles over-the-air can visit a Volvo dealership for a free in-person update.
