The Volvo XC40 Recharge Pure Electric has matched its petrol and diesel siblings in ANCAP safety testing.
The XC40 Recharge Pure Electric scored 97 per cent for adult occupant protection, 84 per cent for child occupant protection, 71 per cent for vulnerable road user protection, and 78 per cent for safety assist.
Those category scores are identical to what the regular XC40 range scored when it was tested in 2018.
Although the rating for the Pure Electric (and the Recharge PHEV) is based on the original 2018 test, ANCAP says additional testing was done to the new variants to ensure they’re up to the same standards.
“To ensure safety is not compromised for consumers wanting to buy an alternative-powered vehicle, for battery and hybrid electric vehicles we conduct additional checks to make sure they don’t pose unique risks such as battery rupture or electrical hazards to the occupants or first responders,” said ANCAP CEO Carla Hoorweg
“This gives consumers peace-of-mind and assists fleet buyers in meeting their safety and environmental targets.”
All 2022 Volvo XC40 models come standard with the following equipment:
- Autonomous emergency braking (AEB) with vulnerable road user detection
- Lane-keep assist
- Lane departure warning
- Blind-spot monitoring
- Rear cross-traffic alert
- Front, side, curtain and driver’s knee airbags
- Reversing camera with front and rear parking sensors
The XC40 Recharge Pure Electric is a dual-motor, battery electric SUV that goes head-to-head with the Tesla Model 3, Hyundai Kona Electric, Mazda MX-30 and Mercedes-Benz EQA.
Combined peak power is 300kW, combined peak torque is 660Nm, and 0-100km/h takes 4.9 seconds. It’s all-wheel drive.
