Volvo Car Australia has recalled 2513 examples of its XC40 small SUV, following the discovery of a software fault which could cause its left-turn indicator to not work.
The recall affects Volvo XC40 models built in 2023.
“Due to a software issue, the left turn indicator lamp may not illuminate as intended. If this occurs a warning will appear in the instrument cluster to alert the driver that the indicator is not operational,” the company says in its recall notice.
“The left indicator functionality can be reset by switching the indicator off and on again.
“If the left turn indicator lamp does not illuminate as intended, other road users would be unable to identify if the vehicle is turning.”

Owners of affected vehicles have been notified the fault can be rectified by performing an remote over-the-air (OTA) software update.
If owners are unable to perform the software update remotely, Volvo encourages them to contact their nearest authorised dealer to arrange an appointment to rectify the fault.
