Toyota Australia is recalling 298 examples of its Yaris hatchback due to improper programming in the hybrid system that may cause it to shut down.
This recall affects hybrid Yaris models produced from May 21 to October 24, 2020.
“In the hybrid system of involved vehicles, due to an improper programming, there is a possibility that the vehicle will not enter a failsafe driving mode if a temporary slip occurs in the input damper of the hybrid transaxle during sudden acceleration and warning lights are illuminated,” said the company in its recall notice.
“If this were to occur, the hybrid system will shut down.”

If you own an affected vehicle, you’ll need to book in a time at a Toyota dealer to have the hybrid vehicle control computer reprogrammed with revised software.
Toyota expects the job to take approximately 45 minutes, but this depends on the dealer’s work schedule.
