The Toyota Corolla Cross SUV and Mirai sedan are currently the subjects of a “Customer Service Exercise” in Australia, owing to front- and rear-view camera defects which affect 378 vehicles.
“The subject vehicles are equipped with a front-view camera and a rear-view camera used to capture and display an image of the area in front of and behind the vehicle,” Toyota said on its website.
“Due to insufficient laser welding of the camera case at the supplier during a specific production period, there is a possibility that the camera case may separate when exposed to external stress over time, allowing water to leak into the camera.
“If this occurs, the circuit inside the camera can short, leading to an inability to display an image of the area in front and/or behind the vehicle.”
The Customer Service Exercise affects 378 vehicles across the Corolla Cross and Mirai model lines, with a list of Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) available here.
Despite being a fault, there is no recall for the issue as yet.
If you own an affected vehicle, its dashboard warning lights will illuminate, audible chimes will sound, and messages will display on the instrument panel if the fault occurs.
You can contact your preferred Toyota dealership to arrange an inspection of the camera’s serial number, which will take approximately 60 to 90 minutes.
If a replacement is required, Toyota says this process will take one to 3.5 hours to complete, depending on the model and dealer’s work schedule.
