Toyota’s racing division, Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR), has dropped a teaser of a mysterious motorsport concept it’ll unveil later this week.
The GR GT3 concept will be officially revealed at the 2022 Tokyo Auto Salon, which will run from January 14 to 16.
In the lead up to its global reveal, TGR has released a shadowy teaser image of the GR GT3 concept that shows the racer’s side profile.
Little can be seen in the teaser image but it has swollen front and rear wheel arches, a very long bonnet, a swept-back and steeply-raked rear window, as well as a large rear spoiler.
The racing division currently offers a GT3-spec version of the Lexus RC F, which has been in action since 2017 and will be retired in 2027 according to the FIA.
Powering the RC F GT3 racer is a 5.4-litre V8 engine that’s claimed to produce over 367kW of power and is mated to a six-speed sequential transmission.

TGR says its racing-dedicated concept car “incorporates the knowledge and refined technologies [it] has gained in the field of motorsports”.
Alongside this racer concept, TGR will showcase a tuned version of its GR Yaris at the 2022 Tokyo Auto Salon.
The racing division also uploaded a shadowy teaser image of the fettled GR Yaris, showing a bonnet scoop, front canards and a swan-neck rear spoiler.

Rounding out the cars that’ll be exhibited by TGR is the GR010 Hybrid racer, as well as its Super GT, Japanese Super Formula Championship and Japanese Rally Championship racers.
TGR will also showcase some of its GR Heritage Parts range, which includes re-production parts for the 2000GT, A70 Supra, A80 Supra, the AE86 Corolla and 40 Series Land Cruiser.

Plenty of other new cars and concepts will be revealed from other automakers at the upcoming 2022 Tokyo Auto Salon.
Daihatsu will show off two customised versions of its Atrai kei car, Honda will reveal a prototype version of its Civic Type R, Mitsubishi will showcase a Ralliart and electric kei car concepts, Nissan will reveal its Nismo Z GT500 racer and Mountain Base concept, and Subaru will debut its STI E-RA concept.
We’ll have to wait and see if Toyota, or any other automaker, has any surprises in store for us.
