Toyota details 2024 updates for GR performance models

Toyota Australia has confirmed running changes for its GR performance models, headlined by the addition of potentially life-saving safety equipment for the GR 86 sports coupe.

Like the related Subaru BRZ, manual-equipped versions of the 2024 Toyota GR 86 will be fitted as standard with autonomous emergency braking (AEB) and lane departure warning, as well as automatic high-beam.

Further, automatic models will pick up a leading vehicle departure alert function.

Also new will be an optional Dynamic Performance Pack for the flagship GR 86 GTS, which adds ZF Sachs sports shock absorbers “which offer a smoother rebound curve and are stiffer at high piston speeds, helping the GR86 to stay flatter in corners”.

The option package also adds four-piston Brembo brake calipers up front finished in red, with two-piston red-painted calipers fitted at the rear. By comparison, the standard car offers two-piston front and single-piston rear units.

Less significant changes have been confirmed for the GR Corolla hot hatch and GR Supra sports coupe line-ups, limited to new colour options already seen in overseas markets.

The 2024 Toyota GR Corolla will be offered in a new Eclectic Blue exterior paint, which also brings contrast blue stitching for the interior trim elements – we’ve seen a similar scheme offered in Japan and the US. Eclectic Blue joins the existing Glacier White, Liquid Mercury, Ebony and Feverish Red finishes.

Finally, the flagship 2024 Toyota GR Supra loses its distinctive Silverstone Yellow paint option in favour of a new and equally as eye-catching Plasma Orange, previously seen on the Euro-market GR Supra GT4 100th Edition.

Exact timing and pricing are yet to be confirmed, though CarExpert understands these running changes will be available to order imminently.
