Fans of the Fast and Furious franchise have something to look forward to next month when one of the most iconic cars from the series goes up for auction.
The 2000 Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R driven by the late Paul Walker in Fast and Furious 4 is set to go under the hammer in a dedicated online auction.
This particular car is not just any Skyline, it’s the one and only authentic R34 GT-R used for all the close-up scenes with Paul Walker at the wheel.
The vehicle is described as “one of the most famous modern-day movie cars”, and has a unique place in the hearts of fans of the franchise and car enthusiasts alike.
The car was converted to Paul Walker’s personal specifications by Daryl Alison of Kaizo Industries and features a custom roll cage, a bespoke dashboard-mounted PC, and OMP custom racing bucket seats that remain in Paul Walker’s seating position to this day.
The 2.6-litre twin-turbo straight-six engine is paired with a six-speed manual transmission and features a Turbonetics intercooler for added power.
Externally, the GT-R was enhanced with Volk Racing RE30 wheels and a Nismo NE-1 high-performance exhaust.
However, the actor personally expressed his desire not to drive a “Sticker Bomber” as seen in previous films from the franchise, which is why it featured with its standard Bayside Blue paint in the movie and has remained unchanged since filming finished in 2009.
Bonhams, the auction house handling the sale, has not provided a pre-sale estimate for the car, but it expects the Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R to fetch over £1 million when the auction starts on April 28th.
Given the car’s unique place in movie history and its customisation to Paul Walker’s specifications, it is no surprise that it’s expected to command such a high price.
For fans of the Fast and Furious franchise the car’s appearance in the fourth movie was a highlight, with Walker tearing through Los Angeles in a high-stakes street race and later using the Japanese sports car for smuggling over the Mexican border.
The car also features in several high-octane action sequences, including being blown up in a fireball.
Since Paul Walker’s tragic death in 2013, various cars previously owned by the actor have sold for significant sums at auction.
The Skyline R34 GT-R is sure to attract interest not just from car collectors, but from fans of the late actor and the Fast and Furious franchise. The car’s availability at auction is a rare opportunity to own a piece of movie history and pay tribute to the memory of one of Hollywood’s most beloved stars.
