Tesla is recalling 5143 examples of its Model 3 electric sedan due to faulty wiring routing for the reversing camera.

This recall affects Model 3 sedans sold from 2017 to 2020.

“Due to the routing of the rear-view camera cable through the trunk lid it may become damaged through repeated opening of the trunk lid,” the company says in its recall notice.

“This will result in the rear-view camera not displaying on the centre console. A loss of the rear-view camera may increase the chance of an accident causing injury or death while the driver is reversing.”

If you own an affected vehicle, Tesla will notify you when parts become available and then you can book in an appointment with Tesla Service using their mobile app.

Until the parts become available, Tesla is recommending that affected vehicles owners do additional checks of their surroundings while reversing.
