Two of Australia’s top-selling electric vehicle (EV) have received yet another price cut, following one at the beginning of the year.
The entire Tesla Model 3 range is now $3400 cheaper. The range now starts at $60,900 before on-roads for the RWD, and extends to $86,900 before on-roads for the Performance.
Tesla has also added a Long Range variant of the Model Y to the Australian line-up, while reducing pricing of the existing variants back to where it was at the start of 2023. There was a brief price rise in February this year after the initial price cut.
The Tesla Model Y range now starts at $68,900 before on-roads for the RWD, and extends to $94,900 before on-roads for the Performance.
The Tesla Model 3 was the third best-selling vehicle in Australia for February, with 2671 examples sold during the month. It was only outsold by the Ford Ranger and Toyota HiLux.
The Model Y was also the top-selling medium luxury SUV in February, with 845 examples sold. It outsold the likes of the Audi Q5 (378 sold) and Lexus NX (282 sold).
Tesla has been cutting prices in various markets over the past few months. It cut prices of its Model Y by up to 20 per cent in the US market, while cuts in China led to a price war as various domestic and foreign automakers in turn reduced their prices in response.
As recently reported, Tesla is currently working on an updated version of the Model 3 sedan, with a refreshed version of the related Model Y SUV set to follow.
Reuters reported words from sources saying the updated crossover, codenamed Project Juniper internally, is expected to enter production in October 2024.
It’s unclear just what changes are coming to the crossover, though the Model 3 update – codenamed Project Highland – looks set to receive visual updates to its front and rear ends, among other tweaks.
