The Suzuki Swift Sport has long been a popular entry-level hot hatch in the Australian market and around the world, but there’s a cloud of uncertainty around whether we’ll see a new one.

    Michael Pachota, managing director for Suzuki Automobiles Australia, told CarExpert the brand’s global headquarters are yet to confirm a new Sport model.

    “At this stage, I have no confirmation that there will be a [new] Swift Sport. The only product offering we have for Swift at the moment is [Hybrid],” Mr Pachota said.

    “I would love to have a new Swift Sport. We have some many customers, loyalists around our Swift performance products, going right back to the GTi.

    “I think we’re [currently] the most affordable [hot hatch] so it’s like the entry level into the portable sports car that fits in anywhere,” Mr Pachota added.

    While the core Swift range has been overhauled, the current Swift Sport which is based on the previous-generation Swift remains in production, and Mr Pachota says it will “see itself into 2025”.

    The Suzuki Swift Sport is currently priced from $29,990 before on-road costs with the six-speed manual and $31,990 before on-roads with the six-speed auto.

    It’s powered by a 1.4-litre turbocharged ‘Boosterjet’ engine shared with the S-Cross and Vitara, producing 103kW of power and 230Nm of torque, and weighs just under a tonne.

    With the Ford Fiesta ST no longer sold in Australia and the Hyundai i20 N and VW Polo GTI moving upmarket, it’s easily the cheapest hot hatch on sale in Australia.

    The new-generation 2024 Suzuki Swift Hybrid arrives in Australia priced from $24,490 drive-away.

    All versions in Australia are powered by a new 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine mated to a 12V mild-hybrid system.
