Smart #5 Brabus revealed: The electric SUV with 911 Turbo-rivalling power

Chinese carmaker Smart has once again teamed up with famed Mercedes tuner Brabus for its latest electric SUV.

Based on the Smart #5 – revealed in Australia last year – the Brabus version of the Tesla Model Y-sized electric vehicle is, in typically Brabus style, a more performance-oriented offering, with eye-watering outputs.

Now producing up to 475kW from its all-wheel drive powertrain, the Smart #5 Brabus boasts 165kW more than flagship versions of the car upon which it’s based – or just 3kW shy of the Porsche 911 Turbo S.

With launch mode activated, it can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 3.8 seconds, still not quick enough to match the smaller but less powerful (315kW) Smart #3 Brabus, which completes the sprint in 3.7 seconds.

The electric motors continue to be fed by a 100kWh battery pack, good for a claimed driving range of 540km on the WLTP lab test cycle – down 200km on the existing top-spec Smart #5.

Changes aren’t limited to beneath the skin. The Brabus electric SUV features a unique front splitter; 21-inch ‘Monoblock Z’ wheels; red brake calipers, mirror caps and side skirt trim; plus a red trim strip on the rear bumper.

Inside, the red highlights continue with contrast stitching, seatbelts and Brabus head restraint logos, while occupants can choose between 256 ambient lighting colours.

The heated and ventilated front seats are upholstered in microfibre and Dinamica faux suede, while rear passengers get the same materials and heating.

An Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel features illuminated Brabus lettering. Behind it is a digital instrument cluster, while there are dual 13.0-inch OLED screens for the infotainment system and passenger.

European deliveries are due to start later this year, with prices starting from €60,900 (A$108,105).

While the Smart #5 is due to arrive in Australia in late 2025, the Brabus version is yet to be locked in.
