Skoda has revealed a tougher-looking Scoutline version of its Kamiq compact SUV overseas – as Skoda Australia gears up to roll out the regular Kamiq range.
Set to arrive in July, the twin under the skin to the Volkswagen T-Cross will lob with a two-model range and promises to be “competitively priced”.
Skoda is likely to reveal pricing and spec information in the coming weeks, however it’s likely the Kamiq will be available in regular 85TSI and higher-end Sportline guise.
Given the related Volkswagen T-Cross is priced from $27,990 before on-road costs and Skoda tends to slightly undercut its bigger brother on price, we could see a starting price around $25,000 before on-road costs.
Power in the Australian model will likely come from an 85kW/200Nm three-cylinder engine mated to a dual-clutch transmission.
That would make the entry-level Kamiq a direct rival to high-end versions of the Hyundai Venue, along with the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Kona, and Mazda CX-3.
Skoda Australia couldn’t confirm whether the just-revealed Scoutline will be headed for our market, but expressed interest in getting it.
Compared to the regular Kamiq, the Scoutline wears a range of tougher exterior add-ons and a new interior trim dubbed ‘ThermoFlux’.
The touches applied to the Scoutline are in keeping with what Skoda usually does with vehicles such as the Superb Scout.
Where the car-based Superb Scout has a taller ride height than the Superb Wagon on which it’s based, however, the Kamiq Scoutline maintains the same ride height as its SUV donor car.
