Skoda Australia has confirmed a new entry-level version of its popular Kamiq crossover is coming very soon, in light of the well-documented shortage of 85TSI versions.

In a media release detailing supply constraints across the Volkswagen and Skoda brands, the company sneakily mentioned a base Kamiq 110TSI Ambition will be introduced to the Australian market “shortly”.

“While the Kamiq 85TSI variant is not available again for order until later this year, Skoda will shortly introduce an entry level Kamiq 110TSI Ambition,” Volkswagen Group Australia’s release reads.

Further details are still to be announced, but it’s understood the 2022 Skoda Kamiq 110TSI Ambition will essentially be the 85TSI specification with the more powerful 110kW/250Nm 1.5 TSI turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine from the Kamiq Monte Carlo and Kamiq Limited Edition.

A few months ago CarExpert reported stocks of the entry-level Kamiq 85TSI were essentially depleted nationally, and Skoda Australia had indicated global demand and production restrictions would hinder re-supply of the three-cylinder Kamiq before the end of 2021.

Going by the wording of the media release, it appears orders will reopen during the latter stages of this year but vehicles likely won’t hit dealers until 2022.

With that in mind, expect the Kamiq 110TSI Ambition to be sharply priced, and not far off the Kamiq 85TSI’s $29,990 drive-away starting price when fitted with the volume-selling seven-speed DSG.

The 110TSI Monte Carlo is currently advertised for $36,990 drive-away while the Limited Edition is priced from $37,990 drive-away.

We’d expect a 110TSI Ambition to sit around the $32,990 drive-away mark before options.
