Renault fans holding out for the latest and greatest Captur SUV will have to wait a little bit longer.
Originally meant to arrive in Australia this year, the first examples of Renault’s all-new city SUV will now start arriving in showrooms in January 2021.
With the Clio canned and the Megane range limited to hot RS models, the Captur will serve as the entry point to Renault’s range in Australia when it arrives.
Three models will be offered: Life, Zen, and Intens. Final pricing hasn’t been revealed, but the base Life will start below $30,000 before on-road costs.
Using the related Nissan Juke as a guide, expect the range to start around $27,990 before on-roads and extend to around $36,490 before on-roads.
It’ll feature a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, alloy wheels, and paddle shifters behind the steering wheel, but will miss out on some of the safety features offered in more expensive models.
The mid-level Zen will be offered with a full suite of active safety features and niceties like keyless entry/start, and will offer personalisation options such as a two-tone paint finish.
The range-topping Intens will be fully loaded with bigger wheels, a 9.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Bose audio, heated/powered leather seats, and a surround-view camera.
Power will come from a 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine mated with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
It will output the same 117kW of power and 260Nm of torque as the 1.3-litre in the Kadjar when it arrives.
At 4228mm long, 1797mm wide and 1566mm tall, with a 2639mm wheelbase, the new Captur is a whopping 106mm longer, 16mm wider, and 33mm longer between the wheels than the model it replaces.
The two-tier boot holds up to 536L of kit, and the split/folding rear seats can also be slid forward. The recently-revealed Volkswagen T-Roc offers similarly flexible seating arrangements.
The Captur will be the first of three Renault SUVs to arrive in Australia next year. It’ll be followed by an updated version of the Nissan X-Trail-based Koleos SUV in the middle of 2021, while the coupe-styled Arkana will replace the Kadjar in the second half of the year.
