Mercedes-Benz has revealed an eye-catching vision for an off-roading Maybach, developed in partnership with late fashion designer Virgil Abloh.
Mr Abloh, best known for his work with Louis Vuitton and Off-White, passed away earlier this week aged 41. Mercedes-Maybach says the car is being shown off to “respectfully celebrate the work of a truly unique design talent”.
Developed by Mr Abloh and Mercedes-Benz design chief Gorden Wagener, the Project Maybach is a two-door, off-road coupe with pure electric power.
At almost six metres long and packing an external roll cage, it’s going to be hard to miss.
Although it’s battery-powered and features touches such as solar panels under the bonnet, the long-bonnet and short rear deck proportions evoke classic grand tourers.
The design also calls previous Maybach concepts such as the Maybach 6 to mind, although it’s more upright and chunky.
Those knobbly off-road tyres are a far cry from the liquorice-thin strips wrapped around most concept car wheels, and tie in nicely with the LED spotlights up front and stylised bash plate down back.

Inside, the driver and passenger sit in stylised bucket seats, with khaki the dominant colour. There’s a noticeable dearth of screens relative to modern Mercedes-Benz models, but you get plenty of what look like tools and travel cases scattered around.
