Is Porsche considering bringing back the Sport Classic?
A new 911 prototype spied at the Nurburgring would suggest it is.
The prototype features a double bubble roof and a ducktail spoiler, suggesting that Porsche may be bringing back the Sport Classic moniker.
This prototype has front and rear bumpers straight from the latest 911 Turbo S.
Missing from the rear bumper are the air intakes that are usually on the Turbo S models, however, suggesting the Sport Classic won’t use Porsche’s most powerful engines.
The last 911 Sport Classic featured the same engine as the Carrera S, suggesting the 3.0-litre twin-turbo flat six from the current 992-generation 911 Carrera S could feature.
The current Carrera S produces 331kW of power and 530Nm of torque. It can also achieve a 0-100km/h sprint in 3.7 seconds
This prototype features centre lock wheels just like the 2021 Porsche 911 GT3.
On the rear of the prototype is a taped off section, most likely covering a take on the Heritage badge also seen on the 992 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition.
Introduced as an ultra-rare limited production model for the 997 generation, the last 911 Sport Classic was built in only one specification.
All 250 examples were painted ‘Dove Grey’ and featured a double bubble roof, ducktail spoiler, and one-off 19-inch Fuchs alloy wheels.
The limited-run model was in such high demand it sold out before it had even been announced.
Only three of these models made it to Australian shores, with one currently up for sale at an asking price of $849,995.
