Porsche has offered a first official look at its upcoming track flagship, the 911 GT3 RS, ahead of its reveal on August 17.
Power in the new RS will come from a 4.0-litre flat-six engine making around 378kW (500PS), according to Porsche GT boss Andreas Preuninger.
The GT3 uses a 4.0-litre naturally-aspirated flat-six engine with 375kW of power, good for a 3.4-second sprint to 100km/h with the seven-speed PDK transmission fitted.
Mr Preuninger says the engine is “even more optimised for track use than its predecessors”, with a “spontaneously responsive, high-revving” character. The 4.0-litre engine in the GT3 is redlined at 9000rpm, so the RS shapes as an absolute screamer.
Given the last GT3 RS was available only with a seven-speed PDK, we expect the new car to follow suit even though a six-speed manual is available in the GT3.
New images of the GT3 RS reveal it’ll feature a double-decker wing that moves the game on from the swan-neck unit on the GT3, along with what looks like some of the most aggressive aerodynamics we’ve seen on a road car.
Photos posted on Facebook show what look like swollen front guards housing a new vent, along with a new take on the louvred arches debuted on the last RS.
The prototype pictured above also features what look like a version of the magnesium wheels offered as part of the Weissach Pack on the last GT3 RS.
The rear bumper is slashed more aggressively than that of the GT3, with vertical cutouts similar to those of its predecessor.
Real nerds will notice the RS pictured here is the only 991.1-generation 911 to feature door handles that don’t electrically pop out.
Although Porsche has confirmed a rough power output, it’s not yet clear how fast the RS will take on the 100km/h sprint, nor information about how fast it’ll demolish the Nurburgring.
