Manthey-Racing, a company specialising in high-performance Porsches, is celebrating its 25th birthday – and Porsche has unveiled the very special 911 GT2 RS Clubsport 25 to celebrate.
And yes, eagle-eyed readers will know Manthey is the company that entered the record books in a specially-tuned GT2 RS at the Green Hell.
With a production run of just 30 cars, the Clubsport 25 will be a rare but exciting sight on racetracks around the globe.
As you can imagine they won’t come cheap, with prices starting at £446,154 ($839,000) each.
The anniversary special is based on the 911 GT2 RS Clubsport, powered by a 3.8-litre twin-turbo flat-six engine producing 515kW. Power is put to the ground via a seven-speed dual clutch gearbox to the rear wheels only.
The Clubsport 25 adopts many design features from familiar and future Porsche racing cars.
The inspiration for the Clubsport 25 edition came from Manthey Racing’s 911 GT3 R, nicknamed ‘Grello’ by Nürburgring fans due to its distinctive green and yellow livery.
Porsche claims the 991-generation GT2 on which the special edition is based greatly benefits from a centrally positioned radiator design.
There are several advantages, such as optimal airflow to keep engine temperatures stable while a repositioned location helps to prevent impact damage.
Several other features have been changed or upgraded, such as double flics on the outside creating greater downforce, a redesigned carbon front lid, and a centrally-positioned NACA duct to supply fresh air to the cabin.
Thanks to the new cooling concept, there was no need for Porsche to keep the radiators located in the wheel arches.
This has improved direct airflow onto the front brakes, which can now maintain stable temperatures for longer. Flared wheel arches open into vertical vents which help to disperse hot exhaust air.
The Clubsport 25 special also features components from the modern 935. The centre-lock 18-inch wheels come straight from the 935 racer, and the car has a wider track than stock.
The rear has also seen major modifications to improve aerodynamics. The rear wing features new side plates and swan-neck supports for “uninterrupted flow”.
New ventilation openings in the rear lid aim to circulate and regulate air flow into the engine bay.
A functional diffuser has been created by Manthey, which provides framework for a newly designed exhaust system.
We hope that, with the Clubsport 25 being a race car, this exhaust system should unleash some proper flat-six sounds.
The headlights have also been optimised for track work at night and feature integrated indicators.
Inside, the car features a FIA approved roll cage to make sure you’re safe on track.
