The Nissan Ariya electric SUV will be driven from the magnetic North Pole to the South Pole, in a world-first adventure set to kick off in March of 2023.
The publicity stunt will promote the company’s crucial new, ground-up EV halo product, which remains unavailable in Australia for the time being due to limited production.
British adventurer Chris Ramsay and team will take a Nissan Ariya with ‘e-4ORCE’ electric AWD over a 27,000km journey, across regions and continents with predicted temperatures ranging from -30-degrees to 30-degrees (celsius).
“The route will negotiate some of the world’s most extreme, brutal, and yet beautiful scenery. From snow-covered glacial landscapes to treacherous mountain climbs and vast desert dunes; Pole to Pole driven by the Nissan Ariya will take followers through breath-taking and uncharted territory,” says a company statement.
If successful, Nissan says Ramsey will be the first person to drive from pole to pole in a vehicle of any type as he makes his way from the Arctic through North, Central and South America, before crossing to Antarctica.
Mr Ramsey’s Nissan Ariya will be modified with upgraded wheels, tyres and suspension. A second, unmodified Nissan Ariya will act as a support vehicle throughout the Americas, Nissan adds.
In 2017, Mr Ramsay and his wife Julie became the first team to complete the Mongol Rally in an electric vehicle. The pair travelled more than 16,000 kilometers over 56 days in his own Nissan Leaf.
