Multiple Toyota models recalled

Toyota Australia is recalling approximately 26,000 examples of its Kluger Hybrid, RAV4 Hybrid, LandCruiser 300 and Mirai vehicles as a software error may stop the stability control system from automatically turning on when you start the car.

This recall affects Kluger Hybrid, RAV4 Hybrid, LandCruiser 300 and Mirai vehicles produced between March 2021 and April 2022.

9129 of these affected vehicles are currently in control of Toyota Australia and the dealer network. These vehicles will be updated prior to being delivered to customers.

“Under particular circumstances, a software error may cause the Vehicle Stability Control system (VSC) to not default to the ‘ON’ status when the vehicle is next started,” says the company in its recall notice.

“These circumstances are: if the VSC switch is manually turned off and the brake pedal is continuously operated between when the vehicle is shut down and then restarted; this may cause the VSC to not return to the default setting ‘ON’ status at the next ignition cycle.”

“This results in a non-compliance with the Australian Design Rules (ADR) 88/00.”

If you own an affected vehicle, Toyota says that you’re able to still drive your vehicle but you’ll need to contact a Toyota dealer to arrange a free software update.

Toyota expects the software update will take approximately one hour, but this depends on the dealer’s work schedule.
