Mercedes-Benz is recalling 8378 examples of its A-Class, B-Class, C-Class, E-Class, CLA, CLS, GLA, GLB, GLC, GLE, GLS, EQC, G-Class, S-Class, and AMG GT due to a software issue that may cause the emergency call system to be deactivated.
This recall affects almost every model sold by Mercedes-Benz from 2018 to 2020, including AMG and Maybach variants.
“Due to a software issue, the automatic network search of the emergency call system (eCall) communication module may be deactivated,” the company said in its recall notice.
“In this case, the automatic and manual emergency call may not be available outside of the network coverage of certain providers.
“If the eCall system is deactivated, in the event of an emergency it would not be possible for the vehicle occupants to connect with emergency services, either manually or automatically.
“As a consequence, emergency vehicles may not be directed to the affected vehicle or may be delayed. This could increase the risk of death if a serious injury has occurred.”
