Morgan’s retro-tastic 3 Wheeler is making a return.
Although it’s a throwback car, the 2022 Morgan 3 Wheeler will evolve.
Gone is the exposed V-Twin engine, replaced by a naturally-aspirated Ford three-cylinder engine that’ll be hidden behind some kind of bonnet or bumper.
Morgan says the car will have a design language “inspired by the early jet age”, but it’s not clear if the structure on the front of the prototype pictured here is representative of the production car.
For all that’s set to change, some things will stay the same. The front suspension is still exposed, the front wheels are still skinny, and the cabin is mostly open to the elements.
The last 3 Wheeler was powered by a 2.0-litre V-Twin engine with 60kW and 140Nm, sent to the rear wheel (that’s right, not wheels) through a five-speed Mazda manual transmission.
The 100km/h sprint took a claimed six seconds, and flat out it’d do 185km/h. Not bad for a retro roadster missing one of its rear wheels.
Morgan flirted with the idea of an electric model as well, but the EV3 never got off the ground.
