Mini Australia will use the new Countryman Stafford Edition to roll out a new online configurator and deposit process.

Potential buyers will be able to build their ideal Stafford Edition online and place a deposit, before arranging delivery with their nearest dealership.

“This engaging new feature arrives at an appropriate time with numerous Mini enthusiasts working from home,” the company said in a statement.

Based on the regular Countryman Cooper and Countryman Cooper S, the Stafford Edition wears a collection of options designed to make the Mini SUV look sportier.

Mini says buyers save $4000 on the Cooper, and $7000 on the Cooper S.

The Countryman Cooper Stafford Edition gets the John Cooper Works exterior styling package, a set of 18-inch alloy wheels, a choice of four metallic paint finishes, black sports seats, piano black interior trim, and a dark headliner.

Power in the base Cooper still comes from a three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine making 100kW of power and 220Nm of torque, put to the front wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Meanwhile, the Cooper S Stafford Edition gains a panoramic sunroof, the climate package (heated front seats), and a 12-speaker sound system.

Power still comes from a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine making 141kW of power and 280Nm of torque, also sent to the front wheels through a seven-speed DCT.

The Countryman Cooper Stafford Edition is priced from $47,500 before on-road costs, up $5300 from the regular Cooper, while the Cooper S Stafford Edition is priced at $54,900 before on-roads – an increase of $5000.
