Mini has revealed some initial details to certain media about its upcoming Aceman crossover ahead of its expected debut in 2024.
As reported by BMW Blog, the Aceman will follow after the Countryman and Cooper ranges in the brand’s overhauled lineup.
The Mini Aceman will be electric only and be built in China by Spotlight Automotive, which is a joint venture between the BMW Group and Great Wall Motor (GWM).
The Aceman is reportedly being pitched as a five-door crossover version of the electric Cooper hatch. It’s worth noting a five-door version of the combustion-powered Cooper will continue to be offered, but it’ll be made in the UK.
In other words, if you want a five-door electric Mini you’ll need to opt for the Aceman or step up to the larger Countryman, which was recently detailed.
Details of the Aceman’s powertrains mirror those of the upcoming electric Cooper hatch which will be built at the same Chinese plant.
The entry-level Mini Aceman E will reportedly be powered by a single, front-mounted electric motor producing 135kW of power. It’ll be mated to a 40kWh battery pack with a WLTP claimed range of 300km.
The Aceman SE will reportedly also be powered by a single, front-mounted electric motor but it’ll produce a zestier 160kW of power. It’ll also be mated to a larger 54kWh battery pack with a WLTP claimed range of 400km.
The Aceman is reportedly slightly larger than the Cooper, measuring in at 4075mm long and 1495mm tall with a 2605mm wheelbase. This makes it roughly the same size as the current, petrol-powered 5-Door Hatch.
It’ll also reportedly be underpinned by the new Spotlight EV platform like the upcoming electric Cooper.
As previously reported, the last new Mini with an internal-combustion engine will be released in 2025, and Mini says 50 per cent of its sales will be all-electric by 2027. Come 2030, every single Mini will be electric.
Based on previous updates from Mini, its next-generation model lineup will include the following cars:
