MG Motor has confirmed it will unveil two new performance electric vehicles (EVs) at the 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed, which will run from July 13 to 16.
Both of these new MG performance EVs will be shown at the First Glance paddock at the British car show and hill climb event.
One of these new MG EVs will be a “dramatic British-designed and built” prototype codenamed EX4. It’s unclear what this vehicle will be exactly.
The other is being referred to as a “sporting EV” that will be available for sale in the UK later in the northern hemisphere summer (June to August).
One vehicle this could likely be is the MG 4 X-Power variant, known as the Mulan Triumph Edition in other markets, that’s “under strong consideration” to join the Australian line-up closer to the MG 4’s launch in the second half of 2023.
This flagship MG 4 model is powered by a dual-motor all-wheel drive setup producing 330kW of power and 600Nm of torque, though recently seen local approval documents listed an output of 320kW.
MG claims the MG 4 X-Power can do the 0-100km/h sprint in 3.8 seconds. For context, the Mercedes-AMG A45 S produces 310kW and 500Nm and has a claimed 0-100km/h time of 3.9 seconds.
It’s less clear what the EX4 could be. One possibility is a long-awaited production version of the previously revealed E-Motion 2+2 concept from 2017, an updated version of which was later seen in patent filing images in 2020.
In addition to the two new MG performance EVs, the carmaker will use the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed as the global public debut for the Cyberster electric roadster.
Initially revealed a few months ago in China, the MG Cyberster will be a rival to the likes of the upcoming electric Porsche Boxster.
The Cyberster is confirmed to be coming to Australia, though the local division hasn’t announced a date of when it will be arriving.
MG has yet to release any technical details about the Cyberster, though a Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology filing filled in some blanks.
It lists a single-motor rear-wheel drive powertrain with 213kW, as well as a dual-motor all-wheel drive powertrain boasting a front-axle motor with 150kW and a rear-axle motor with 250kW.
Top speed is 193km/h in the single-motor variant and 200km/h in the dual-motor version.
It’s unclear just how large the lithium-ion battery pack is in the Cyberster, or what kind of range it offers.
“We’re excited to return to the Festival of Speed and with a global debut,” said MG Motor UK commercial director Guy Pigounakis.
“The Cyberster marks MG’s long-awaited return to sports car production and we’re ready to share what that exciting future looks like with this high-performance, technologically-advanced EV.
“Two further debuts are planned, both demonstrating MG’s desire to create electric cars that will engage and exhilarate.”
