MG is on the up sales-wise, but the current range has little connection to brand’s enthusiast heritage. The Cyberster aims to bridge that gap.
Although MG’s vehicles are currently produced primarily in China, Thailand or India, the Cyberster concept was developed at the firm’s design studio in London.
Up front the Cyberster has round “Magic Eye” headlights that open up when switched on.
At the rear there are LED tail-lights with Union Jack graphics.
While the two-seat roadster shape is a clear call back to the good old days, the Cyberster’s details are more aggressive with heavily sculpted sides, protruding splitters and side skirts, and a large rear wing and diffuser.
The concept also features “hacker blade” alloy wheels, a ground-hugging stance, and an intricate lower bumper design.
In the cabin there are floating head restraints, plenty of red and white leather, a larger divider separating the driver and passenger, and an instrumentation screen and wheel that supports gaming.
According to the firm, the Cybertster has an electric drivetrain with a 0-100km/h time of under three seconds, and a driving range of more than 800km.
MG has yet to provide specifics about the motors and battery pack, but says more information will be available when the concept makes its debut at the Shanghai motor show on April 21.
