Maybach – the ultra-luxury arm of Mercedes-Benz – has turned its attention to the iconic Mercedes-Benz SL, revealing the opulent Mercedes-Maybach SL680.
Dubbed the ‘sportiest model in Maybach brand history’, the SL 680 is based on the 430kW/800Nm Mercedes-AMG SL63, with the same 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 under the bonnet.
That’s far from the defining feature of the SL680. Mercedes-Maybach rivals Rolls-Royce and Bentley in the premium car space, and as such the carmaker has fitted a unique exhaust system and extra sound insulation to ensure a quiet, cosseting ride.
The SL 680 unveiled at Pebble Beach is also the first SL-based Maybach, and the first model in the ‘Monogram Series’.
Like the SL 63 it’s based on, the SL 680 comes with the 4MATIC variable all-wheel drive system.
In true Maybach style the ultra-luxury roadster is dressed two-tone paintwork, with chrome accents to fill in the gaps.
Buyers can choose from two colour schemes – Red Ambience and White Ambience – each combining the respective core colours with an Obsidian Black upper section that covers the bonnet and bootlid.
Between sits the ‘extensively insulated’ black soft top, adorned with a Maybach badge pattern.
Other unique exterior features include rose gold accented headlights, exclusive 21-inch forged wheels, custom bumpers, Maybach badging, and a raised front signet.
The interior of the SL680 is equally eye-catching.
Both variants feature a Crystal White Exclusive Nappa leather interior, with silver chrome accents.
Everything from the seats to the door panels, centre console, and area behind the seats is finished in leather. The seat upholstery also features a new unique geometric design.
Maybach has tweaked the digital driver display and infotainment screen to play specific start-up animations, as well as adding unique display styles.
In conjunction with the release of the SL 680, Maybach has launched a range of matching merchandise including a leather jacket, sneakers, a scarf, a tote bag, and even a dog bag.
Each features design elements taken directly from the new model line.
Maybach will launch the SL 680 in the US with both colour schemes in the second half of 2025. It’s unclear whether the model will be sold in Australia.
