Mercedes-Benz Australia has recalled eight electric eSprinters, after discovering a fault which could cause a loss of power.

“Due to a manufacturing defect, gears inside the rear axle drivetrain may have not been welded to the required specifications and could break. As a result, the vehicle may experience loss of propulsion whilst driving,” the carmaker said in its recall notice.

“In addition, the parking lock may not operate as intended. This could result in the vehicle moving or rolling away whilst engaged in park position.

“A loss of propulsion whilst driving and/or if the vehicle moves from its parked position while unattended this could increase the risk of an accident causing injury or death to vehicle occupants, bystanders and other road users.”
