Mercedes-Benz shows off its updated mid-sized van range

Mercedes-Benz Vans has revealed mid-life updated versions of its mid-sized passenger and commercial vans.

These vehicles include the Mercedes-Benz V-Class people mover and Vito commercial van, their EQV and eVito all-electric counterparts, as well as the V-Class Marco Polo camper van.

Mercedes-Benz has confirmed right-hand drive production of these updated mid-size passenger and commercial vans will commence at the beginning of 2024. It’s unclear at this stage when they’ll come to Australia.

The German carmaker hasn’t detailed the powertrains these vehicles will be available with just yet, with this information to be announced at a later date.

Mercedes-Benz shows off its updated mid-sized van range

The current, third-generation Mercedes-Benz V-Class and Vito date back to 2014. The Marco Polo launched locally in 2017, and the all-electric EQV and eVito launched locally last year.

The following is a breakdown of each vehicle and what has changed with the mid-life update:

V-Class

The updated Mercedes-Benz V-Class will be available globally in three body lengths (Compact, Long and Extra-Long), as well as four variants (entry-level, Style, Avantgarde and Exclusive). There are also available AMG Line and Night packages.

The front end of the V-Class has been refreshed with a “striking” grille design. Depending on the variant, the V-Class receives an LED light band surrounding the grille.

The flagship V-Class Exclusive receives an upright three-pointed Mercedes star on the bonnet for the first time.

There are adaptive LED headlights available either as standard or as an option, depending on the variant.

The V-Class now receives two sliding doors as standard.

Just like the front end, the V-Class’ rear bumper has been refreshed and there are redesigned LED tail lights.

Inside the V-Class receives a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system in one housing.

These two screens run the latest version of the MBUX infotainment software, which gives owners access to music streaming, navigation with augmented reality, and the “Hey Mercedes”, voice assistant among other features.

In addition there are new air vents, as well as new steering wheels with capacitive buttons.

A new centre console allows for a smartphone wireless charger that’s standard on some variants and an optional extra on others.

Other new features that are available on the V-Class include push-button start, a heated steering wheel, 64-colour ambient interior lighting, and dimmed rear lighting for driving at night.

The updated V-Class has the capability to offer seating for up to eight people.

On the safety front, the V-Class receives 11 airbags, autonomous emergency braking with junction assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, intelligent speed assist, driver attention monitoring, adaptive cruise control, a surround-view camera, and a parking assist.

EQV

The changes the updated EQV receives largely mirrors those of the related V-Class.

The EQV will be available in only two body lengths, however, and exclusively in Avartgarde trim. It also has specific exterior and interior styling.

Inside the EQV’s infotainment system has electro-specific displays and settings, including pre-air-conditioning and charging settings, among others. The navigation system also has active range management built in.

In Europe there are Mercedes me Charge digital services that allow owners to access over 500,000 charging points – including fast-charging network Ionity.

Like the V-Class, the EQV offers seating for up to eight people.

Vito

The Mercedes-Benz Vito commercial van will be available globally in Panel Van, Crew Cab, and Tourer body styles with three body lengths (Compact, Long and Extra-Long).

The Vito will also be offered globally in three different trim levels including Base, Pro and Select.

Like the V-Class, the Vito receives a refreshed exterior with restyled front and rear bumpers. In Base trim, the bumpers are unpainted.

The entire Vito range is now available with alloy wheels.

Inside the updated Vito comes with a 5.5-inch colour display that’s sandwiched between two analogue gauges, as well as a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

This infotainment system runs the latest version of Mercedes-Benz’s MBUX software.

Other interior updates include an available power tailgate for Vito Crew Cab and Tourer variants, an electric park brake for automatic models, and push-button start, among others.

A new centre console offers removable cup holders, two USB-C ports and two open storage areas. The lower shelf can also be equipped with a wireless charger.

The Vito offers a loading volume of up to 6.6 cubic metrics as a Panel Van and up to nine seats in Tourer configuration.

On the safety front the Vito comes with six airbags, autonomous emergency braking with junction assist, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, intelligent speed assist, driver attention monitoring, and a reversing camera.

eVito

The updated Mercedes-Benz eVito largely mirrors the changes applied to its combustion-powered counterpart.

It’s available globally in two body lengths, like the EQV, and can be configured in a Panel Van or Tourer body style.

Like the EQV, the eVito’s infotainment system has electro-specific displays and settings, including pre-air-conditioning and charging settings. The navigation system also has active range management built-in.

The eVito Tourer offers a power tailgate for the first time.

Like the regular Vito, the eVito has up to 6.6 cubic metres of loading volume as a Panel Van and up to nine seats in Tourer configuration.

V-Class Marco Polo

The Mercedes-Benz V-Class Marco Polo’s updates largely mirror those of the regular V-Class

A fully equipped camper van that offers capacity for up to four people, the V-Class Marco Polo comes with a pop-up roof with a bed, bench seat, folding table, fully equipped kitchen, and a wardrobe.

Other features include LED lighting with dimmable main lights and 64-colour ambient lighting; 230-volt and two 12-volt interior sockets; two USB charging ports; and an external 23-volt power supply.

The V-Class Marco Polo comes with air suspension that can be adjusted at the push of a button in order to level the camper out on uneven ground.
