More than 2600 Mercedes-Benz G-Wagens may be fitted with a jack which isn’t compliant with local safety standards, forcing its recall.

Mercedes-Benz Australia has recalled 2650 examples of the G-Class (G-Wagen), as the SUV’s jack doesn’t comply with local standards.
“The jack provided with the vehicle may not include a base plate. The jack does not comply with the mandatory standard for vehicle jacks Consumer Protection Notice No. 1 of 2010 Consumer Product Safety Standard for Vehicle Jacks,” the carmaker said in its recall notice.
“The vehicle jack may collapse while in use, causing serious injuries or death.”

If you own an affected vehicle, Mercedes-Benz will contact you once parts become available. You’ll then need to schedule an appointment with a dealer to have the jack base plate affixed, free of charge.
