Mercedes-Benz has recalled the previous-generation G300 to fix a problem with the rear axle drive shaft bearing.
“Due to a manufacturing defect, the oil supply to the rear axle drive shaft bearing may not meet specification,” the brand says in its recall notice.
“As a result, the bearing may overheat and seize causing a loss of motive power whilst driving and/or an oil leak from the rear axle.”
“A loss of motive power and/or an oil leak onto the road could increase the risk of an accident causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users.”
Mercedes-Benz will contact owners of the affected vehicles to arrange a free fix with their nearest dealer.
