The electric successor to the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe is currently undergoing winter testing in Sweden, as the brand gears up to take on the Porsche Taycan.
We’ve already seen what is believed to be a test mule spied in heavy camouflage and wearing the body of the current EQE, but this is the first official look at the next-generation model – which will debut Mercedes-AMG’s first standalone electric vehicle (EV) platform.
Known as AMG.EA (electric architecture), the platform will exclusively underpin the brand’s performance EVs, starting with the as-yet unnamed GT 4-Door Coupe replacement.
According to Mercedes-AMG, the AMG.EA platform offers axial-flux electric motors and a high-performance high-voltage battery, likely bringing higher outputs than the current-generation systems.
Previous reports have claimed it will offer up to 746kW of power, just shy of the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT’s 760kW output on overboost, but more than the Taycan Turbo S’s 700kW on launch control.
While the camouflage hides most of the prototype’s design details, the production model is expected to adopt styling cues from the Vision AMG concept, which was unveiled in 2022 as a preview to AMG.EA-underpinned models.
Vision AMG concept 
The Vision AMG featured an extended tail, six ‘exhaust port’-shaped rear LED lights and Mercedes-Benz’s three-pointed star design for its headlights.
Reports have pointed to the new electric super sedan being named the GT4 EV, though this has yet to be confirmed by the carmaker.
All new Mercedes-Benz and AMG platforms launched from 2025 will be electric.
The carmaker delayed its target for EVs to account for 50 per cent of its global vehicle sales from 2025 to 2030 last month – though this was also revised to include plug-in hybrids.
