Mazda Australia has confirmed a stop-sale on its more affordable Mazda 3 and CX-30 G20 models, though the company stresses it’s only temporary.

A spokesperson for the company told CarExpert: “As we continue to feel the impacts of the global automotive industry supply constraints, production for select Mazda3 and CX-30 model grades – 2.0-litre Pure, Evolve and Touring – are subject to extended production delays”.

“During this time we are working to prioritise existing customer orders, and a limited quantity of stock of these variants remains available in dealerships. We recommend customers contact their local Mazda retailer for more information.”

“The Mazda Australia website is currently being updated to reflect these changes, and our dealerships will continue to liaise directly with affected customers to update them on timings and availability of their individual orders.”

The following disclaimers are now live on the company’s website:

    • Mazda 3: “Due to high demand combined with global supply chain delays, delivery times for 2.0L Pure, Evolve, Evolve M Hybrid and Touring variants are currently much longer than usual. Contact your local dealer to know more”
    • Mazda CX-30: “Due to high demand combined with global supply chain delays, delivery times for 2.0L Pure, Evolve, Evolve M Hybrid, Touring and Touring SP variants are currently much longer than usual. Contact your local dealer to know more”

The above disclaimers indicate G20e M Hybrid models are also affected, though top-spec G20 Astina versions of the CX-30 as well as X20 Astina Skyactiv-X versions of both the Mazda 3 and CX-30 aren’t affected.

These developments mean the price of entry for both the Mazda 3 and CX-30 is bumped up by thousands of dollars.

With limited supply and a stop-sale on 2.0-litre Pure, Evolve and Touring grades of both model lines, it means the only variants readily available are priced from $31,990 for the Mazda 3 G25 Evolve SP manual, and $37,690 plus on-roads for the CX-30 G25 Touring.

For context, the entry-level Mazda 3 G20 Pure manual starts at $27,040, while the base CX-30 G20 Pure starts at $29,590.

Sales of the once top-selling Mazda 3 are down by 42.5 per cent year to date (5520 units), while the CX-30 has been a breakout star with 9520 sales to July 31 (up 16.0 per cent). The CX-30 has become one of the top-selling model lines in the mainstream small SUV segment, second only to the MG ZS range (11,609 units, up 6.7 per cent).
