Kia Australia says it expects to receive far greater supply of the heavily in-demand EV6 across 2023, potentially whittling down current wait lists.
Kia Australia chief operating officer Damien Meredith told CarExpert the expectation for next year was it would receive around 2500 EV6s from Korea.
This is more than double what it forecast for 2023 in October this year, when it said it would look to secure around 100 units of the EV6 each month, or at least 1200 annually.
For a little added context, Kia initially planned to deliver just 500 EV6s this year and has sold 533 to the end of November. It now expects to now receive 700 this year, but not all will be registered by December 31.
Despite this good news the company still doesn’t think its much freer supply will meet demand for the radically styled electric crossover – with a backlog of “hundreds” of orders to clear on top of incoming orders.
Back in January this year Mr Meredith said he believed the EV6 was capable of returning 3000 sales annually “quite easily” if supply constraints weren’t an issue.
The EV6 range will further expand next year too, with existing Air and GT-Line variants joined by the delayed EV6 GT halo model in January of 2023.
