Jeep Australia finally has a solution for Wrangler fans missing their ‘shorties’.
A limited-edition Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Recon is bound for our shores late in 2020. Just 100 are coming, of which 40 will be three-door models. In other words, get in quick.
Priced from $66,950 before on-road costs, the three-door Rubicon Recon is $1500 more expensive than the regular five-door Rubicon, while the five-door Recon kicks off at $71,450 before on-roads.
Both pack a handful of equipment add-ons to justify their limited-edition status.
On the outside, the Recon has a matte black grille, bonnet scoop, and fender vent, along with blacked-out 17-inch alloy wheels.
The front bumper is a steel unit featuring a special hoop, while the tailgate has been reinforced to boot. Owners who tick the Recon Premium Package ($3000) will get body-coloured fender flares and a body-coloured ‘Freedom Top’ roof.
Inside, there are red seatbelts, a premium instrument panel, leather-trimmed front seats with heating, and a heated steering wheel.
Power in the Recon comes from a 3.6-litre naturally-aspirated petrol V6 engine with 209kW, put to all four wheels through Jeep’s more advanced Rock-Trac four-wheel drive system with a two-speed transfer case, locking front and rear differentials, and an electronic front sway bar disconnect.
The 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine offered on the regular Rubicon isn’t available.
