Jaguar is adding another V8 option to its F-Type range in Australia.
Jaguar Australia has confirmed the P450 V8 version of the F-Type announced overseas will be coming Down Under, although it hasn’t confirmed exact timing.
Power in the P450 comes from a detuned version of the engine from the range-topping F-Type R; a 5.0-litre supercharged petrol V8 with 331kW of power and 580Nm of torque.
That’s up 51kW and 120Nm on the P380 V6 currently serving as the mid-range option in the Jaguar Australia range.
The car was revealed for Europe and the USA in 2020, but hadn’t been confirmed for Australia.
The 100km/h sprint flies by in 4.6 seconds with the new V8 engine, and flat out you’ll be doing 285km/h.
The engine is offered with both rear- and all-wheel drive abroad, but which will be available in Australia isn’t yet clear.
Pricing and specs for the new mid-range F-Type will be revealed closer to launch.
Jaguar hasn’t confirmed if the P380 supercharged V6 option will continue Down Under beyond 2021, but it’s not guaranteed. The engine is gradually being retired in new Jaguar Land Rover vehicles and being replaced by lighter, more efficient engines from the Ingenium family.
Currently, the mid-range F-Type P380 is priced from $174,765 before on-road costs. It sits below the F-Type R, priced from $262,936 before on-road costs.
Although it’s been axed in the USA, the entry-level F-Type P300 four-cylinder could continue in Australia for 2022.
It’s currently priced from $128,066 before on-road costs in coupe guise.
With 21 examples sold to date in Australia, the F-Type is narrowly outselling the Audi TT and sits just nine sales behind the BMW Z4 in the race for sports car sales over $80,000.
