Hyundai Australia is recalling 13,548 examples of the Veloster and Tucson due to a manufacturing defect that could lead to an engine fire.
This recall affects FS-generation Veloster models with the 1.6-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine and TL-generation Tucson models with the 2.0-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine produced between 2014 and 2017.
“Due to a manufacturing defect, the engine connecting rod bearing could fail prematurely causing engine damage,” said the company in its recall notice.
“If this occurs, engine oil may leak in the presence of an ignition source resulting in a vehicle fire.”
