Hyundai has shown off its biggest electric car yet.
The Hyundai Seven concept revealed overnight in Los Angeles is built on the same e-GMP electric chassis as the Ioniq 5 SUV, and will morph into a production SUV in 2024.
When it does launch, Hyundai Australia says it wants to bring the full Ioniq range Down Under. In other words, the production Seven should eventually grace Australian shores.
With more than 480km of range, the Seven offers at least 30km more than the current longest-range Ioniq 5. Although they’re only concept specs, expect them to bear some resemblance to the eventual production car.
Its boxy profile might not link it directly to the existing Ioniq range of vehicles, but it shares its Parametric Pixel LED headlight and tail light details as a common thread.
Thanks to a 3200mm wheelbase, Hyundai says the interior of the Seven offers a “completely new dimension of space”. There are three rows of seating, and the flat floor combines with a tall, flat roof to double down on the lounge-like interior aesthetic established by the Ioniq 5.
Although it has a steering wheel and pedals, the Seven has been designed with autonomous driving in mind. The wheel folds away, and the screens turn the Ioniq into a rolling Gold Class cinema when the computers are in charge.
Forget about cooled gloveboxes, there’s a mini fridge in the cabin for some light mid-flight refreshments, and the built-in shoe care compartment will make sure your boots are bright and shiny before a big meeting… we assume.
The Seven will likely go head-to-head with the Kia EV9, also revealed in concept form overnight.
