Kia Australia has detailed remaining stock levels of its discontinued Cerato small car, as the new-generation K4 swoops in to take its place in local showrooms.
Speaking with media during the Australian launch of the 2025 Kia K4, Kia Australia COO Dennis Piccoli said there’s “probably about six weeks’ worth”.
“The transition to [the K4] should be pretty seamless. Cars should start arriving on ships over the next week or so, so we expect to have a full suite of [K4] cars in market by February 1 across the country.”

After 20 years on sale in Australia, the Kia Cerato nameplate notched up over 200,000 sales. Kia Australia says more than 20 per cent of all Kia vehicles sold in Australia so far have worn the Cerato badge – highlighting the significance of the small car segment to the Kia brand.
Even in today’s SUV-loving market, the Cerato was one of Kia’s top performers in Australia. There were 15,502 new Ceratos registered here in 2024, making it the Korean brand’s second best-seller behind the Sportage mid-sized SUV, and the nation’s second most popular small car behind the Toyota Corolla.
Kia Australia expects the new K4 to achieve sales around the 8000-9000-unit mark in 2025, largely due to the fact the K4 Hatch – which is expected to be the better seller – won’t arrive until the fourth quarter of this year. The Cerato had a similar staggered rollout in its most recent generation.
While it’s yet to be revealed or officially confirmed, Kia is expected to debut a hybrid drivetrain in the K4 at some point this year, for which the local arm says it has its hand firmly raised. Given the Cerato’s historic success with fleets in Australia and looming emissions penalties, it seems like a no-brainer for Kia to go after the Toyota Corolla Hybrid with.
Pricing for the Kia K4 is up by anywhere between $4000 and $6700 over the equivalent Cerato, based on advertised drive-away pricing, though the price hikes are largely offset by increased specification and technology levels, including Kia Connect services and a wider range of active safety systems.
