GWM Haval is adding a second hybrid SUV to its range in Australia.
The Jolion Hybrid will touch down in Australia during September 2022 in a single high-spec grade, priced at $40,990 drive-away. That’s up $7000 on the range-topping Jolion Ultra with petrol power.
Despite the hefty price increase, it’s $5000 less expensive than the larger H6 Ultra Hybrid, and sits alongside a base Toyota RAV4 hybrid ($36,900 before on-roads) or a top-specification Toyota C-HR hybrid ($37,165 before on-roads) based on price.
It also undercuts the base Kia Niro Hybrid S ($44,380 before on-roads) and Honda HR-V e:HEV L ($47,000 drive-away).
Power in the Jolion Hybrid comes from a 1.5-litre petrol engine, mated with what Haval dubs a Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT) that comprises the electric motor and gearbox.
Peak combined power is 139kW, and peak combined torque is 375Nm.
It’s front-wheel drive, and uses a claimed 5.0 litres per 100km on the combined cycle. The Toyota RAV4 2WD hybrid uses 4.7L/100km on the combined cycle, while the Niro uses a claimed 4.0L/100km.
The Jolion Hybrid is only offered in range-topping Ultra guise. It features a unique grille, unique LED headlights and fog lights, a new front bumper, new rear spoiler, and 18-inch alloy wheels.

Sales of hybrid vehicles in Australia are rapidly growing, led by Toyota’s expanding range of electrified cars.
According to VFACTS data, Australians have bought 47,835 hybrids since the start of 2022 – equivalent to 7.7 per cent of all new car sales.
